This Week in Johnstown History: Cambria City’s Place in History
On September 1, 1994, a Pennsylvania historical marker honoring Cambria City was dedicated at 418 Broad Street. Founded in 1853, the neighborhood became home to immigrants drawn to Johnstown’s coal mines and steel mills. By 1880, immigrants made up 85 percent of Cambria City’s population, building the churches, clubs, and traditions still celebrated during the Cambria City Ethnic Festival today.
