Halloween fun is picking up around Johnstown, with pumpkin parties, trunk-or-treats and spooky attractions filling the weekend. Shop more than 50 vendors at Flood City Fall Fest, bring the kids to Bottle Works’ Oh So Artsy Halloween Party, or catch Log Art Theatre’s production of Come From Away. There’s live music around town, Friday night football and an early Sunday start for Steelers fans, too.

This Week in Johnstown History: Clara Barton's Farewell

On October 24, 1889, Johnstown residents gathered at the Morrell Institute to honor Clara Barton, who had spent nearly five months helping lead Red Cross relief efforts following the Great Flood.

The crowd was reportedly so large that the building's floor began to give way, forcing the celebration to move to the Red Cross Hotel on Locust Street. Barton was also presented with a gold pin and locket decorated with diamonds and amethysts as a farewell gift from the people of Johnstown.
