Johnstown Insider – Weekend Events August 6-9, 2026

This weekend brings a packed lineup of local fun, from Thunder in the City and the Sunflower Festival to live music, community fundraisers, creative workshops, and family-friendly events. Whether you are looking to shop, explore, support a good cause, or simply enjoy a summer day out, there is plenty happening across the area.

By the 1880s, Johnstown was growing quickly as the steel industry expanded and more families settled in the city and surrounding communities. With that growth came the need for a larger, more permanent cemetery to serve the area.

On August 9, 1884, a group of Johnstown citizens met to begin planning what would become Grandview Cemetery, located on the hillside above the city.
