Fall is officially taking over the Johnstown area this weekend, with everything from PotatoFest and corn mazes to live music, paranormal events, community fundraisers, and plenty of family-friendly fun. Whether you’re looking to spend the day in Ebensburg, catch a show downtown, or support a good cause, there’s a lot happening from Thursday through Sunday.

On September 24, 1927, the Johnstown Junior College of the University of Pittsburgh held its first class inside the Johnstown Senior High School building.

The college was created as a two-year program for local students who wanted to begin their college education close to home before transferring to the University of Pittsburgh. That first year included 150 students, including 40 women, with tuition listed at $10 per credit.

Nearly a century later, that small start has grown into the Pitt-Johnstown campus we know today.
